Milestones
Eldest Daughter and I just made travel reservations for a California visit in early May, to make a whirlwind tour of colleges. Her interest in California schools began in the middle of a long Minnesota winter. Coincidence? I wouldn't bet on it.

There's no space in the baby book to record "Baby's First College Visit," but it still feels like a developmental milestone to me.

Have fun out in California. I think it's a good thing for a young adult to go to college somewhere other than their home state. It gets them out into the world, on their own, and into a different culture. They might come home afterward, but I really think leaving to go to college a long way from home is a positive thing.

Yes, even though the Mama Bear in me is scared of her being so far from home, I'm proud of her for being brave enough to do it.

And hey, it would give me an excuse to visit a warm state in the winter.

Well, we probably won't get to ALL of these, but the starter:

o The Claremont consortium (Pomona, Pitzer, Claremont McKenna, etc.)
o Chapman University
o Whittier
o UC Santa Barbara (if time permits on the drive up the coast)
o UC Santa Cruz (ditto)
o University of San Francisco
o San Francisco Institute of the Arts
o UC Berkeley

While reading your post, I was remembering visiting colleges with my mother. Then it dawned on me that she was the same age then that I am now, and I am horrified! How did that happen?!?!?

I know...it feels like life goes on fast-forward somewhere around 30.
